The cost of day to day living, transport, and accommodation helps to make Africa a budget destination. You must travel to Africa with a plan of exactly what parks you want to visit, what activities you want to do, and what your daily budget should be.

The price of a room depends very much on what you deem an acceptable standard and which country you are in, so please do your research before booking. Food and drinks are ridiculously cheap in South-East Asia, especially if you eat like the locals by visiting markets and street vendors.

Travel to Europe on a Budget

Europe is one of the most popular destination for most of the tourist specially us Brits. Hence why trip to Europe can be very expensive at certain times of the year. If you after a holiday in the sun with the family south west European counties like Spain, Caribbean Islands are a good destinations but they can be quite expensive especially if you are travelling during School holidays. If you are looking for holiday it’s always a good idea to compare holidays from different airports as you might find a cheaper deal from a different airport than your local one. You will always find cheaper deal flying from big airports. Another good tips is if you live near the border of England or Scotland then search for holidays from opposite country as school holidays starts in different time in Scotland and England and you will have a better chance to get a cheaper deal. If you are planning to sort the holiday yourself then always start with flight and then hotel. Make sure you have all important documents within valid date before you book. It’s always a good idea to get your travel insurance before travelling.

Over 50's ( Baby Boomer)

Travelling on a budget is much easier when you are over 50 (Baby Boomer) as you have less ties or responsibilities and able to travel in odd times of the year when schools are on or when it is not a holiday occasion. Always start your search with the flight. If you don’t have a set destination then it’s great because you can search for a cheapest fight destination and pick one of the best one. Then search for the hotel and transport from the airport to hotel and back. It is always good practice to look at the reviews before you book a hotel so you can get an idea about the place. It’s also a good idea to give the hotel a call directly as in most of the cases it will work out cheaper than going through accommodation booking sites like Booking.com, Trivago etc. Always make sure you keep an eye on the currency of the country you will be visiting and buy some when the price is cheap. Also search in google for local shops and amenities around the hotel you will be staying. It is always a good idea to hire a car if you can drive a you can get around well and easily go and see places and it works out a lot cheaper that getting a tour bus or other means of transportation. If you are hiring a car always make sure you get a full waiver insurance from the place you hiring the car from. It is very important to get the travel insurance which is most suitable for you. Your flight or ferry is often your greatest expense. So make sure you do your research. There are loads of flight comparison sites to help you with this like Kayak and Skyscanners. You can also compare modes of transport to find out which is the cheapest. If you normally fly could you do it cheaper by train? Could you even do it in the car or on a bus? And again, don’t forget to work in hidden costs. An overnight sleeper train may seem an expensive option, but it might save you splashing out for a night’s hotel in a city. See if there’s a budget airline transporting passengers to an airport near the city you want to visit rather than directly into it. We recently found some good deals for Croatia flying into Zadar. When you are there, keep an eye on local transport costs as these can mount up. Beware the cost of an open topped bus versus the local authority version. Kids travel free on some public transport systems so it’s worth asking at the Tourist Information. And walking only costs you shoe leather! Lastly, make sure all your passports are up to date in advance so you don’t need a costly emergency dash to the passport office before you go.

The first few years of having children takes its toll on your finances, but that doesn’t mean you have to ditch dreams of travelling. Many families put off a ‘big trip’ before their children start school, because they haven’t been able to muster the time or money. But while the first few years of having children can be expensive and demanding, travel can be affordable and rewarding with toddlers in tow. There’s little point crossing the globe or going on safari before they’re old enough to remember it, but any adventure encompassing new languages and landscapes can be a valuable, educational experience for the whole family.

My personal suggestion is to look for an apartment instead of a hotel as you will be able to cook your own food in there. It’s always a good practice to eat in when you are on a holiday to stay within your budget. Always make sure that you search for a travel insurance in comparison sites and get the one most suitable for you.

It’s always easy for young professionals with no kids to go away when schools are on because the price of hotels and flights are always very high during school holidays. Flexibility on travel and find the time to research is a very big thing if you want to travel cheap or on a budget. If you haven’t got a fixed destinations then start searching by the cheapest flight. Once you got your flight sorted then do a search on hotels. Sometime different travel agents do some cheap deals to get rid of their holidays so you need to keep eye on that too. Once you got all that sorted trying do some search on local shops, supermarket and food courts on the area you are staying and also trying find any comments/reviews from anyone who stayed that area before which can be very informative and useful on your journey. There is one very important thing to remember is if your hotel is not a walking distance from the airport then get the transportation sorted beforehand otherwise it can be very expensive.
